Watch a Recent Ascent of Permanent Waves 5.13d

Jamie Finlayson, who was recently featured in Gripped for his photography, has uploaded this video of Luke Zimmerman sending Permanent Waves 5.13d.

Zimmerman wrote on social media, “I’ve wanted to do this climb since 1996, when I saw a photo of Jim Sandford on it in one of the first climbing magazines I ever owned.”

The first ascent of Permanent Waves was in 1977 by Daryl Hatten and Carl Austrom and was called Carl’s Problem A4. The first free ascent went to Sandford in 1993.

“I got on it for the first time in 2004 and came back to it every few years after,” wrote Zimmerman. “The upper boulder problem always felt just too hard to link and I’d give up after a few days of effort.

“This year things felt different. It’s so nice to experience definitive gains after lots of hard training. And what a pleasure to send such a beautiful and classic route.” For more on Zimmerman, visit here.
