Watch Sends from Colombia’s Most Popular Crags

Lucho Birkner and the crew of Chachas Films have produced this short video highlighting two of Colombia’s most popular climbing areas.

One of the areas is the limestone walls of Macheta. With mostly 5.11 routes that are graded for the endurance needed to haul on pumpy jugs, the crag is a busy place.

The other is La Mojarra and as Birkner says, “It’s one of the most popular places to climb in Columbia these days.” It’s located in the Chicamocha Canyon, one of the largest in the world.

There are over 200 routes on the orange sandstone from 5.7 to 5.14 with endless potential. The first routes were climbed in 1999 by Juan Carlos Poveda and friends.

Refugio la Roca is where most climbers spend their down time. The weather is good in winter, summer, spring and fall. For more on the area and the Refugio, visit here.
