Watch Strong Brits Send American Direct in Chamonix in a Push

Tom Livingstone and Uisdean Hawthorn climbed American Direct on the Petit Dru in Chamonix in late August. They climbed the route in a day, starting at 4.15 a.m. and topping out on the Grand Dru at 8.30 p.m.

They rappelled down to the Charpoua Glacier but got off-route, finally reaching the glacier at 4 a.m. The glacier was a jumbled mess of crevasses so they took a few hours sleep before continuing to the Charpoua Refuge for breakfast. The 1,100-metre 5.10+ was first climbed by Gary Hemming and Royal Robbins in 1952.
