Finlayson’s New Working Man 5.14

Jamie Finlayson has climbed many of the West Coast’s hardest routes and recently added a new 5.14b.

The July heatwave is providing perfect conditions for hard sends in Squamish. Read about Ben Harnden’s second ascent of The Bull 5.14R here.

Finlayson bolted the route on the Cacodemon Boulder in 2013. “I am calling it Working Man, it climbs an amazing overhanging dihedral which is guarded by a fierce V11 boulder problem,” said Finlayson. “The opening is very tenuous and requires some granite wizardry on a series of underclings, crimps, and terribly high feet.  There is a rest before the corner which I originally though would be climbed as a stem corner but after working the route I found it better to climb the prow and move into the corner at the top of the prow.”
