Jamie Finlayson Starts Dreamcatcher Projecting Early in 2017

Jamie Finlayson has been projecting Dreamcatcher 5.14d in Squamish for the past few years. The steep bolted route climbs up the Cacodemon Boulder below The Chief. It was first climbed by Chris Sharma in 2005 and repeated by Sean McColl, Ben Harnden and Alex Megos. A number of strong climbers have spent countless days working the route, which starts up a technical slab, climbs up and right along a rail with small pin scars and finishes with a crux move around a corner.

Finlayson go to work early in 2017, as temperatures in Squamish warmed above zero for the first time since late fall of 2016. On Instagram, Finlayson wrote, “Dawn patrol Dreamcatcher session. Headed out at 6 am this morning. Warmed up with a little bouldering and then jumped on the rope. It felt great to get back on this rig.

It was very wet but it was good to test my training and see if I am on the right track. The answer is yes! I felt super smooth and cruised through the bottom half of the route. The pins scar slots were soaked but it was nice to get after it again on a rope. Thanks Tim Emmett for waking up early and heading out with me into the damp forest.”

A number of other climbers have been soaking up the warm weather. The forecast looks wet for the rest of the week on the West Coast, but the temps are above freezing. Is it almost rock season?

Rock climbing pitches in 2017 grew by 500% today! Name that pitch!
