New Hard Ghost Multi-Pitch is The Cupcake Conspiracy

Calgary-based alpine climbers Jon Walsh and Michelle Kadatz began bolting a big route in the Ghost last fall. They returned to the popular valley with large limestone walls this spring to finish their project. In the end, they established a five-pitch sport route called The Cupcake Conspiracy that requires only 16 quick draws. Clocking in around 5.11+, it will require repeat ascent to confirm the grade.

The new route starts about 50 metres right of the classic Bonanza, a 260-metre 5.8. The pitches breakdown to a 35-metre 5.10, a 40-metre 5.11+, the 15-metre crux 5.11+?, a 35-metre 5.10 and a final 35-metre 5.10+? pitch. See here for more on The Cupcake Conspiracy. In 2014, Ross Suchy, Simon Meis and Joshua Lavigne established Booty Loader, a seven-ptch 5.12c sent in 2014. Visit here for a list of hard Rockies’ multi-pitch routes.
