Watch Drone Footage of Big Northern Ontario Walls

The Sleeping Giant is a peninsula in Lake Superior that extends about 45 km off the shore north of Thunder Bay. It has long been known that Sleeping Giant has Ontairo’s largest walls, up to 200 metres on the western aspects. Few new routes have been added over the past few decades to the basalt walls and never on the west face, but in the early 1980s a handful were climbed on the Chillar Pillar wall. The area is about 10 km from the car and has Ontario’s longest route, Discovery 5.8 110 metres. The route is rarely climbed, required good route finding skills and has some dusty loose rock. In this short video, you can see dozens of splitter cracks.
