The North Face’s 2015 Summit Series Collection

The North Face’s 2015 Summit Series is now available and climbers are going to love it.

The new line of outerwear is a fresh take on the brand’s much-loved line of Summit Series products, which was launched in 2000.

The North Face has reduced the Summit Series by over 70 items and offers one option per style. In 2013, they had over 90 pieces and in 2015, they offer eight for men and eight for women.

The Summit Series line is made to piece together, with each layer fitting nicely with the other. The zippers, seams and pockets all coordinate.

This is the ultimate ice and alpine climber’s set up and breaks down into a six-piece layering system.

The Summit L1 has a top and pant and make up the base layer, which is the one piece you won’t take off during your expedition or climb. It’s designed with comfort in mind and have minimal seams. The Summit L2 is a a durable mid-layer fleece jacket. The Summit L3 is a mid-layer lightweight insulated jacket that utilizes 800-fill goose down.

The Summit L4 is another insulated jacket, which adds protection against cold and wet conditions. The Summit L5 is a pant and jacket combo and are the most advanced shells The North Face has ever produced. The pants are meant purely for climbers, as they have no internal gaiter and are narrower than most climbing pants. A ski boot would not fit under them. The final layer, the Summit L6, is one of the most heavy duty down jackets on the market, meant to keep you warm during the coldest conditions.

This innovative layering system is meant for ice climbers cragging in Eastern Canada and alpinists attempting a remote and committing route in the Rockies or Coast Mountains.
