Video: Balloon Over Everest

Balloon Over Everest is an early-mid 80’s Australian film documentary about an unsuccessful attempt to sail over the summit of Mount Everest in a hot air balloon. That notwithstanding, it still was the highest alpine ballooning flight in history at that time. The real “adventure” of the documentary is the pre-launch preparations with sky diving in Australia followed by the events in Nepal and the nail-biting finale when the members of the expedition realize they’re in big trouble as they approach Everest and must abort the mission, then attempt to safely land the balloon on the Himalayan slopes in the timberline-tundra transition zone. The Adventure series was hosted on PBS-TV in 1987 by the now late Dodge Morgan.
