Watch a Big Rock Trundle in Squamish

The theme of the week seems to be natural rockfall, but here is a clip of climbers in Squamish forcing one on a classic route.

Birds of Prey is a four-pitch 5.10b on Slhanay that was first climbed in 1983 by Bob Milward and Jim Campbell. The route has become somewhat of a must-climb and sees regular ascents.

In 2011, climbers noticed a large flake on the route had become unstable. Using the appropriate safety measures, they trundled the rock, which took out a tree on the way.

If you are going to attempt any trundling, be sure you have the area below closed off and spotters on the ground. Read this article by Kevin McClane on trundling.
