The 2016 American Alpine Club Awards

The American Alpine Club will present five awards at their annual dinner on Feb. 25, 2017. “The evening will feature Conrad Anker’s reflections on his personal history, climbing and the Himalaya,” announced the club.

“With 30 years of adventure under his belt, Anker’s love for climbing has taken him all over the world: from Alaska to Antarctica, Pakistan to Patagonia, from his home near Hyalite Canyon to the top of Everest.” To register for the event visit here.

The Angelo Heilprin Citation will be awarded to Dave Riggs for his time as the board chair of the club’s community committee and volunteer chair of the Sierra Nevada Section. The Robert and Miriam Underhill Award will go to Mark Twight for his contribution to the sport of alpine climbing.

The David R. Brower Award will go to Kris Tompkins who created large wilderness conservation areas in Chile and Argentina. The Robert Hicks Bates Award will go to Mason Earle for his many first ascent of difficult crack climbs, such as The Bartlett Wash Project 5.14. The H. Adams Carter Literary Award is going to David Stevenson, who is the director of the creative writing and literary arts department at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
