Ontario and B.C. Crown Provincial Champions
This past weekend, Altitude Climbing Gym in Gatineau, QC, hosted Ontario’s Difficulty Provincials. Toronto’s Florent Balsez took the top spot in Men’s Open. Coupled with his 10th place at Open Bouldering Nationals, winning the Ontario Championships puts the veteran competitor on a fine course for Nationals next month. A relatively new talent, Toronto-based Mei Nagasako came first in Women’s Open.
On the west coast, SportClimbing BC held its Speed and Difficulty Provincials at The Boulders Climbing Gym in Central Saanich, on Vancouver island. At the end of the weekend, the young powerhouse Lexi Binder was crowned the BC Women’s Open Champion in both disciplines. A regular on the podium, Elan Jonas McRae came first in Men’s Open in Lead, and Jaxson MacDonald won the Men’s Open Speed event.

What’s Next?
The last provincial event takes place next weekend, April 27, 2019 (FQME Difficulty Championships for Youth B, C, D). The OCF did not schedule a Speed Championship this year, but in order to meet the CEC eligibility criteria, there will be a Speed Nationals qualifying event on May 11, 2019, at the Hub Climbing Gym.
