Indoor Weekly: Watch RAB Climbing Works Comp

The RAB Climbing Works International Festival 2018 will take place this weekend in Sheffield, U.K.

This is the first major international comp of the season and is hosted by the IFSC.

Some of the big names that will be at the event are Chloe Caulier, Jan Hojer, Sasa Gejo, Kokoro Fujii and Jernej Kruder.

The four IFSC setters are Percy Bishton, Jamie Cassidy, Laurent Laporte and Reini Fichtinger and other setters are Jason Pickles, Rob Napier and Andy Long.

Qualifiers will be held on Saturday. In 2018 the first part of the competition will be a circuit of 30 flash problems. All these problems were split between the main ‘circuit area’ of The Climbing Works and the competition wall.

The circuit is the more informal part of the weekend with the scores being predominantly self marked with the circuit starting off easy (Font 5+/6a) and getting very hard toward the end.

This part of the day also includes a Team competition (four people which are mixed gender) with the highest team score winning lots of money. You don’t have to be part of a team but it makes it a more fun day climbing with your friends.

The highest individual scores from the circuit part of the competition Qualified for an on-sight Semis and Final on the competition Wall.

The Semis will take place Sunday on the competition wall with the top 20 men and top 20 women challenging themselves on four set problems. These problems will be judged independently. The six highest female and male scores will progress to the Finals.

The Finals will again take place on the competition wall with the whole wall being reset between the Semis and Finals. Here the top six from the Semis will compete on four Female and Four Male problems to decide The RAB CWIF 2018 overall champions.
