Stage One of Open Boulder National Series
The Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) Open Boulder National Series’ first stage of four took place at Quebec’s Horizon Roc during Defi du Bloc.
Climbers have been sessioning Horizon Roc for over 20 years. With room for 300 routes, it’s a perfect gym for to host the first stage of the CEC bouldering series.
Some of the best climbers in Canada showed up at Horizon Roc for the weekend showdown. Finishing in the top three for women were Marieta Akalski, Beth Vince and Ashley Veevers in third. For the men, Sebastien Lazure beat the competition and in second was B.C.’s Matt Keays and in third was Francis Bilodeau.
Tower of Power Comp at True North
Stage two will be at B.C.’s The Edge on Jan. 31. Stage three will be at Grip It in Saskatoon on Feb. 21. Stage three will be at Joe Rockhead’s on March 7.
Stage one and two of the lead comp will be on April 18 at Allez-Up in Montreal and Elevation Place in Canmore. Stage three and four will be on April 25 at Toronto’s True North and at B.C.’s The Boulders.
The National Youth Bouldering Championships will be at Climber’s Rock in Burlington on Feb. 14 to 16. The National Open Bouldering Championships will be at Montreal’s Bloc Shop on March 21 and 22. The National Open Lead Championships will be at B.C.’s The Boulders on May 16 to 18.
