Watch Deep Water Solo Comp in West Virginia
Tara Kerzhner’s award-winning documentary about PsicoRoc 2016, America’s first deep water soloing climbing competition on real stone.
It included a touching tribute to Hayden Kennedy and Inge Perkins, who won the women’s division.
The event took place at Summersville Lake at the West Virginia’s New River Gorge. Athletes were scored on their performances on established routes, with the exception of Sean McColl.
The Canadian finished the competition by bagging the first ascent of a 20-metre 5.13d variation that ends with a deadpoint over all that water.
Deep water soloing and cliff jumping are prohibited at Summersville Lake, but the New River Alliance of Climbers (NRAC) was given special permission by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Huntington District for the competition.
