First Look: Black Diamond Deploy Wind Shell is Light

One of the trends of the Outdoor Retailer summer market in Denver was light outerwear for 2019.

The absolute lightest piece we saw is the new-for-219 ultra-light Black Diamond Deploy Wind Shell.

It uses an ultralight five-denier nylon fabric from Torray together combined with a crazy light new mesh-tape zipper from YKK, one that is 40 per centlighter than other zippers.

The jacket can pack into a small pocket in its own collar with a small elastic and weighs only 48 grams for a men’s medium.

Combining its pack-ability with its weight will make this piece an absolute must have for anyone heading into the mountains in 2019.

Black Diamond is also releasing an all-new tent called the Distance for 2019. It’s a totally new design, lightweight and pole-pitched.

The Black Diamond FirstLight and HiLight two-person tents also receive upgrades. More on those later.
