Sometimes, you don’t need your full-on, burly, 50 litre crag pack. The new Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole is perfect for days when all you need is a compact bag to hold your approach shoes, harness, chalk bag, shell and water bottle. It’s a simple top-loader that has a zipper flap for your phone and stretch pockets on the outside for other small items.
It weighs less than a couple of quickdraws. For travel, it stuffs inside its own top pocket. Although the pack is not abrasion-resistant enough to put up with aggressive hauling, its small size loans it to simpler tasks, like carrying personal gear on multi-pitch routes or quick trips to the crag.
Patagonia are proud of their commitment to the environment and sustainable materials and technologies. The Ultralight 20 l is part of a series of bags made from 100 per cent recycled materials including fabrics with the stringent environmental bluesign® certification. In addition to the Ultralight 20 litre pack, The Black Hole range includes the 55 l Duffel and 25 Tote, the latter being perfect for hauling gear from climb to climb at the gym or crag.
If you want a pack that’s light and compact for quick climbing hits on trips or a casual day at the crag when someone else has the rope and rack in their bag, the Black Hole Ultralight 20 l is a perfect, environmentally responsible piece. (MSRP: $100)
