Valandre Gonzo: a versatile down jacket for serious outdoor use

With another few weeks of extremely cold weather coming, it's a good time to add another warm layer to your collection

The Gonzo shows Valandré’s experience building down jackets and sleeping bags of the highest quality. The heart of this super-warm jacket is 192 grams of 800 fill down distributed in baffled compartments to avoid cold spots and giving the fill maximum loft. Valandré source their white goose down from geese in southwest France raised just for down.

Valandre Gonzo

The shell is ripstop polyamide treated with a durable water repellant. Good for everyday wear and shedding snow, but not for super-high abrasion situations like chimneys. Valandre carefully distributes the down (more in the shoulders and less in the lower body), ensuring maximum warmth where it’s needed most without adding movement-robbing bulk.

The hood is similarly well-designed and offers exceptional warmth and wind protection double drawstring. The zipper, a sturdy, nylon YYK with two metal pulls, zips above the nose for extreme cold. Thoughtful design features like the inner zip compartment keep your phone warm or store topos or snacks. This is an extremely warm jacket, great for general outdoor wear on really cold days or as a belay jacket or something to pull out during rests while backcountry skiing. Find it for purchase here.

Valandre, while known for their extremely durable and warm layers, are also known for having some of the most creative and abstract art in their ads. Visit them on Instagram below for more examples.
