Grizzly Bear Kills Two People in Canada
Eight years ago, two ice climbers were attacked in the Canadian Rockies in fall. A reminder to stay vigilant this time of year

Parks Canada has said that a bear attack in Alberta’s Banff National Park has left two people dead. Natalie Fay, Banff field unit external relations manager, has said that the agency received an alert from a GPS device in the Red Deer River Valley at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday. The emergency call indicated a bear attack.
In a statement, Fay said that a response team trained in wildlife attacks was mobilized, but weather conditions at the time did not allow for helicopter use. Therefore, a team travelled to the location on foot through the night. She said that Wildlife Human Attack Response Team arrived at 1 a.m. and found two deceased individuals. She said the response team encountered a grizzly bear showing aggressive behaviour in the area. Parks Canada staff then euthanized it for public safety.
Fay said that RCMP arrived at 5 a.m. to transport the victims to Sundre and a closure remains in place at the attack area as a safety precaution. CBC reported the couple’s dog was also killed in the bear attack.
In 2015, a grizzly bear attacked two ice climbers on Mount Wilson in Jasper National Park. Nick Bullock and Greg Boswell fought the bear off, but not before it injured Boswell. Read about the attack here.
