Scott Bennett Gets FKT on Mounts Stuart and Forbidden Peak

Scott Bennett has set the fastest known time (FKT) up two classic routes in Washington.

Bennett soloed the North Ridge of Mount Stuart and the West Ridge of Forbidden Peak, both routes are in Fifty Classic Climbs of North America.

On Stuart, he made the round-trip if five hours and 57 minutes, with only one-hour and 34 minutes needed for the 5.9 route.

On Forbidden Peak, his round-trip time from the trail head was four hours and 54 minutes.

Bennett has climbed three El Cap routes in a day and once held the speed record up Naked Edge 5.11 on The Diamond on Long’s Peak in winter.

“The rock climbing on the ridge was spectacular,” said Bennett. “The dark granite was worn white on the high-traffic path, and the holds were all clean and friendly.

“Big square cut jugs and perfect jams marked the way. An apparently blank section provided the crux, but my outstretched fingers found a deeply incut lock and I pulled through with a whoop.”
