Snowboarder Dies in B.C. Riding Alone in Closed Area
The rider was found alone, buried and unconscious by another skier at SilverStar Mountain Resort
A snowboarder has died after an accident in an out of bounds area at SilverStar Mountain Resort in B.C. this weekend. He was riding alone and was found by another skier who saw a snowboard poking out of the snow.
The accident happened in Putnam Creek, which was closed due to unsafe snow conditions. “Despite the attempt of rescuers, efforts to resuscitate the individual was declared deceased at the scene,” said RCMP Const. Chris Terleski.
The man in his 40s was identified as resident of Vernon, but no more information was made available.
Last week, a man died skiing at Crystal Mountain in Washington, and the first backcountry ski death of the season in Canada was on Nov. 27 when a snowmobiler lost their life in a B.C avalanche., read more about the incident here.
Always be sure to check avalanche conditions here, don’t ski/ride in closed areas and don’t go out alone, as having a partner in the backcountry could save your life. A great video in the wake of the recent death:
