The New Volkswagen Bus is Going to be Awesome

Volkswagen made it official that they will stop making the classic Beetle yet again.

However, the company isn’t stopping with the retro theme and announced that the iconic VW Bus is making a return as part of the brand’s push towards electric vehicles.

It’s said that the production version of the revived icon is slated for 2022.

“Our goal is clear: we want to make the fully electric, fully connected car a bestseller around the world. The iconic car of the electric age must be a Volkswagen,” said Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management for the Volkswagen brand.

The design of the revived VW Bus is said to be inspired from the original version and, in their words, “to recall the original Type 2 Microbus without mimicking it.”

Expect it to come with a two-tone V-nose, rectangular windows, a hint of a windshield sunshade, and a gesture at the rear side air vents that characterized the original.

It will be part of what Volkswagen calls the MEB platform or Modular Electric Drive when translated to English.

In the I.D Buzz Concept, the new Bus comes with two motors, each powering the front and rear wheels to give it all-wheel drive.

Combined output from both electric motors come are rated at 374 PS. It will be more than the 30 PS it originally came with back in the 1950s.
