Top Polish Ski Mountaineer Hopes to Ski K2 this Year

Andrzej Bargiel is at top Polish ski mountaineer who is returning to K2 this year in hopes of skiing a big line.

A number of people have attempted the descent on skis before, including Hans Kammerlander in 2001 and Fredrik Ericsson in 2010.

Kammerlander turned around near the summit after watching a climber fall to their death and Ericsson fell to his death.

“Somebody will do it, but he’ll need a lot of ability and a whole lot of luck,” said Kammerlander after his attempt.

Bargiel has previously skied Shishapangman and Broad Peak, two other 8,000-metre high mountains.

Bargiel wanted to attempt the line last year but bailed due to poor conditions. This year, he’ll first ski Gasherbrum II to ready for K2.
