Watch Alex Honnold Ski California’s Biggest Mountain

He joins pro skier Cody Townsend for an ambitious push up Mount Whitney

Legendary skier Cody Townsend is joined by Alex Honnold to attempt to link together the lowest spot in North America, Badwater Basin (-282′ below sea level) with the highest spot in the continental United States, Mount Whitney (14,505′ above sea level) via a 217 km bike ride linked to a climb and ski of the Mountaineers Route on Whitney.

Honnold is no stranger to sufferfests and joins in on a long time goal of his own, but done in a manner that he is not very familiar with – on skis.

This film is part of the Fifty project by Townsend, as he attempts to climb and ski all 50 of the lines and mountains chronicled in the book The 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America. The series documents Townsend’s journey’s, travels, challenges and each line and mountain listed in the book. It’s a journey through the most majestic mountains and ski lines in North America along with a unique insight into how skiers make decisions in the backcountry, how they plan, navigate and safely move through the mountains along with the people that dedicate their lives to the mountains.
