The Pacific Ocean is 1,000 kilometres to the west, but that doesn’t stop Calgarians from riding local waves.

Watch as as surfers head to a standing wave in Calgary and take on the cold waters that come from the Bow Glacier in the Bow River.

There’s a standing wave near the 10th street bridge that’s a result of a massive flooding a few years ago.

This footage from the last couple of weeks in the 2016 when conditions were just right.

It includes an interview with Lorenza Sommaruga Malaguti from Italy who regularly surfs Alberta’ rivers.
