The second-last Lead World Cup before the Olympics starts tomorrow in Chamonix, France. The qualification round is taking place on Saturday July 13, and then the semi-finals and finals will both be held the following day, Sunday July 14.

Adam Ondra is making his long-awaited return to the 2024 World Cup circuit at the Chamonix event. He sat out of World Cup events in Keqiao, Wujiang, Salt Lake City, and Innsbruck this year, choosing instead to train for and recover from the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS). It turned out to be a wise decision as he secured his Paris Olympic ticket at the OQS in Budapest last month.

In Chamonix, Ondra will be joined by many Paris Olympians. The men’s event will serve as a mini preview to the lead climbing portion of the Olympics, although several top athletes are skipping Chamonix due to their Olympic preparations. Alongside Ondra, fellow Olympians Colin Duffy, Jesse Grupper, Toby Roberts, Alberto Ginés López, Sam Avezou, Sascha Lehmann, Paul Jenft, and Luka Potocar are all signed up to compete in Chamonix.

In women’s, the field is a little less stacked. However, several Olympians are still expected to show up, including Jessica Pilz, Ai Mori, Mia Krampl, Zélia Avezou, and Oceania Mackenzie.

Several of Canada and the United States’ top talent will be competing in Chamonix. Team USA members and Paris Olympians Brooke Raboutou and Natalia Grossman are not participating in the event. See below for the full list of Canadian and American athletes registered to compete in the Chamonix Lead comp.
