The Austin Mega Gym Crux Climbing is Expanding
The Crux Climbing Center, a fitness centre focused on bringing together climbers of all skill sets, today announced it is expanding its 22,000-square-foot facility in South Austin.
The expansion includes additional parking availability and a complete renovation of the historic beverage barn located on the northwest corner of South Congress Avenue and Pickle Road.
The new building – slated to open in early 2019 – will expand on Crux’s existing fitness offerings, including weightlifting, strength and conditioning, and more. The new space will also feature saunas, a bottle shop and an outdoor area for community workouts and events.
“We are proud to offer a premier space for world-class climbers to train, compete and network, but Crux has always been so much more than a climbing gym,” said Kevin Goradia, founder and CEO of Crux Climbing Center.
“Our members and visitors range from recreational climbers to die-hard yogis to families looking for a fun, healthy activity for their kids. Expanding our space to accommodate our eclectic community will not only meet the needs of our growing membership, but offer fresh experiences to Austinites of all fitness levels.”
Crux’s current facility features rope climbing, bouldering, strength training, fitness and yoga classes, locker rooms, a kids’ area and a co-working space. It also hosts member appreciation events, industry nights, summer camps and nationally renowned climbing competitions that draw some of the sport’s most decorated athletes, including its annual Come and Send It Fest.
The construction of the new facility will be led by Austin real estate developer Peter Barlin, and includes strategic investments by Melanie McLeroy, founder of Taurus Academy; Ryan Howard, owner of Complete Web Resources; Nelson Guda, artist and activist; Esteban Lardone, director of Sol Education Abroad; and Hong Tran, managing partner of Logic Wealth Management.
