Canadians Finish 2018 Boulder Year After Munich Qualifiers

The final 2018 Boulder World Cup is taking place in Munich with some of the world’s best boulderers competing.
While Canada had a number of climbers make Semis and Finals at the Youth World Championships last week, no Canadian made Semis in Germany.
It was one year ago today that Sean McColl injured his finger in Munich and he was hoping for some redemption.
But after finishing 95th after Qualifiers, he said, “The mind is a peculiar thing, as one year ago at this very comp I tore a pulley in my finger. Unfortunately this year, that’s all my mind could focus on.
“On the bright side, I got this competition out of the way without injury and now I can move past it. I feel strong, I feel fit, yet this competition this year crushed me. I would’ve liked some sweet redemption but that will have to wait.”
Team Canada climber Jakob Elliot had the best finish for Canadian men in 83. Nathan Smith finished 89 and David Trudeau landed in 109. You can follow results here.
For women, Alyssa Weber finished in 53, Becca Frangos in 63 and Olivia Wyett in 69. Frangos had been in Germany training at a World Cup simulation competition. Her best finish in a World Cup this year was when she placed 38 in Vail.
“Time for some small tweaks, some fun training and prep for the real goal of this trip: the World Championships in Innsbruck,” said McColl.
