Canmore is Getting a New Bouldering Gym

The Canmore Climbing Gym will be near the climbing shop Vertical Addiction

Canmore is one of Canada’s top climbing towns, with world-class ice, alpine and sport routes spread across dozens of ranges. Over 20 years ago, The V’sion bouldering gym opened thanks to climber and owner Dung Nguyen’s vision of having a core training facility.

The V’sion closed a decade ago when Elevation Place climbing gym opened. However, a bouldering gym co-op started at the same time with some of The V’sion’s old walls and pads. That co-op closed and reopend in a new location, which closed earlier this year.

This fall, top Canadian climber, Sonnie Trotter, teamed up with Nick Rochacewich, Bart Urbanski and a few other local climbers to open the Canmore Climbing Gym. The new facility is close to Vertical Addiction, Canmore’s climb and ski shop.

The panels will be 12 feet wide, will be flat and will be divided into five sections: zero degrees, 10, 20, 30 and two moonboards. There’s no timeline as to when the gym will open, as they’re waiting on walls from Onsite in Montreal. It sounds like they’ll be open at the start of 2021.

The gym is a much-needed space, as Elevation Place only fits around 60 people in non-pandemic times. Be sure to follow along on Instagram below.
