Comp Results from Up the Bloc and Climb Base5

A second round of local bouldering comps were held this weekend in B.C. and Ontario.

Climb Base5, in Vancouver, hosted a two-day event with Open, Junior and Youth A competitors climbing on Saturday and Youth B, C, D climbers competing on Sunday.

In the open category, Mika Hosoi had another strong day of climbing and won the event. Hosoi also came first at B.C.’s first local comp two weeks ago in Kelowna. Definitely no strangers to the podium, Maria Celkova came second with Becca Frangos in third.

For the men, young guns Ethan Hoffman and Brennan Doyle took the top two spots (for the Youth A category as well). Qualifying in first by one attempt, Tosh Sherkat finished the final round in third.

Much like Climb Base 5, the event at Up the Bloc was packed with youth climbers, with a relatively small number of open competitors. That said, it was still a very competitive field for both the open men and women.

Will Johnson got some amazing photos from the first day of the event:

Familiar names in the top spots for the men. Jakob Elliott took home the win, while Dylan Saffery and Rahul Sapra, who both made the podium last month at the Hub, came second and third, respectively.

For the women, top Junior competitor Justine McCarney won the women’s open event. Elina Avramova, with a bronze under her belt from the Hub, earned herself silver yesterday place, and rounding out the podium was Avramova’s teammate, Kacy Wilson, who took home third place.
