Five Canadians Heading to Pan-Am Olympic Qualifiers

Any one of these Canucks could end up heading to the Olympics in Tokyo

It’s now or never if the climbers heading to the Pan American Championships this week want to compete in the Olympics in August. As of now, only Sean McColl will be representing Canada.

However, Alannah Yip, Becca Frangos, Allison Vest, Jason Holowach and Brennan Doyle will be competing at the Pan Am Games starting on Feb. 25. There are only 26 women and 22 men climbing in qualifiers, but the Canadians will have their work cut out against a strong field.

With the U.S.A.’s quota being full for women, the highest ranking woman who is not from the U.S.A. will be heading to the Olympics. Yip is the favourite thanks to her strong record at combined events. However, with a spot still open for American men, a top-placing U.S.A. climber could win their Olympic ticket.
