Petra Klingler Relives Her World Championships Experience

Swiss climber Petra Klingler is a uniquely well-rounded athlete in the world of competitive climbing. She’s competed at the highest level of multiple disciplines including lead, boulder, speed, and ice climbing. Growing up in a climbing family, Klingler’s first passion was horseback riding, and it wasn’t until she entered – and won – her first climbing comp that she became hooked on the sport. While Lead was her first love, she’s had considerable success in recent years as a boulderer.

Klingler has had big achievements in all climbing disciplines. In 2016, she won the IFSC Boulder World Championships in Paris. In 2021, she got the chance to compete at the Tokyo Olympics, placing 16th overall. Last year, she won gold in the Lead discipline at the UIAA Ice Climbing World Championships in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.

Adidas TERREX recently released a film about Klingler’s time at this year’s IFSC World Championships, which took place in her hometown of Bern, Switzerland. The film features footage of Klingler climbing in the Boulder event and also includes discussions on performing under pressure, body image, and dealing with success and failure.

Klingler had a solid showing at the World Championships, making it to the semi-finals and placing 13th overall in the Boulder comp. In 2023, she was a regular presence in the World Cup circuit and she also competed for a spot in Paris Olympics at the European Qualifier in late October, placing 11th overall.
