Results from Gneiss Bouldering Comp Nov. 3, 2018
Kelowna’s Gneiss Climbing held BC’s first sanctioned event of the comp season this past Saturday. There was a category for everyone, from Recreational and Youth competitors to Open and Masters.
The demographic for the open category was noticeably young, with 15 of 24 female competitors and 19 of 42 male competitors also eligible for Junior or Youth A rankings.
This means that half the open competitors were 16 to 18 years old, including second and third place finishers for the men.
There was a nice spread in separation for men and women’s finals. The top spots went to Jesse Taplin and Mika Hosoi. For the men, second and third went to Guy McNamee and Ben Newman, respectively.
For the women, Sophie Buitendyk and Christy Spurrell tied, down to attempts to zones. Buitendyk finished in second because she qualified – by one attempt – ahead of Spurrell, who came in third.
