Schubert and Garnbret Win Combined World Championships

Jakob Schubert and Janja Garnbret won combined at the IFSC World Championships in Innsbruck. The combined event today is the format that will be in the 2020 Olympics.

For this week, combined was the best results of climbers competing in speed, lead and bouldering multiplied together.

Garnbret said, “Knowing that Jessica Pilz topped meant I had to climb fast which put a little pressure on.”

Adam Ondra, who had problems on slabs at the boulder finals, sent the slab problem in combined and went on to finish second in bouldering before lead.

In lead, Ondra climbed to within one hold of the top, higher than Schubert, but Schubert’s speed time meant that he won overall.
