Watch Sonnie Trotter and a Baby’s First Hangboard Session

The top Canadian climber recently presented at the Vancouver Mountain Festival

Sonnie Trotter has long been a staple of Canadian climbing. The 40-year-old rock climber is known for being the first Canadian to climb 5.14c, the third North American to establish 5.14d and for establishing some of the most difficult lines in Ontario. Not to mention his many 5.14R trad first ascents.

Trotter has taken a small step back from the world of hard first ascents, instead setting his sights on a brand new challenge: family. This past year Trotter has worked close with Dave Mai of DMProductions to produce a brand short film called Scamp Life. Like any athlete, training has to come before a great trip, and Trotter’s daughter didn’t miss a beat. After a couple hangs, she was ready for a year on the road with the family.

Scamp Life premiered at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, from Feb. 21 to March 1.
