A Weekend of Comp Action – Results Here

Canadians were competing all across the country this weekend, with an ACA youth comp in Alberta, an FQME youth comp in Quebec, as well as the first Tour de Bloc event of the year in Nova Scotia. What’s more, the TDB event doubled as an Atlantic regional qualifier for Nationals. Here’s how the dust settled from east to west.

Tour de Bloc/CEC National Qualifier at Seven Bays Bouldering in Halifax

It was a tight round for the open women in finals. Everyone on the podium had three tops. Krista Demolitor and Andrea Giles tied so first and second place were determined by a count back to qualifiers. Demolitor ended up with the gold; Giles with silver. Third place went to Carlie Dunbar, who had one extra attempt to tops. Not as many sends for the men, but still a good breakdown in the end. Francois Cote came out on top with two problems, Sebastien Pacey-Smith and Rob Grandy, who rounded out the podium, were the only other finalists to send a problem.

Final Open Results Men/Women

Heart-breaking almost-send from Rob Grandy…

Youth B, C, D Comp at Beta Bloc in Dorval

The final round for Youth B girls had lots of sends. In fact, Mia Laprise and Léa Latour both flashed all four problems. Laprise came first because of count backs. Sophiane Bertrand finished in a very tight third place; she also topped all four boulders but with one extra attempt. For Youth B boys, on the other hand, Dylan Le was the only one to top all four final problems. Mathis Imbeault and Ben Chapman got all the zones but ended up with only one top each. Imbeault was second, ahead of Chapman, because of one attempt.

Youth Comp at Elevation Place in Canmore

A great job from the setters resulted in a perfect spread of tops for the junior boys in finals. Tyson Martino came first, with Dylan Bokenfohr and Ethan Somji in second and third, respectively. For the junior girls, Lisa Van de Panne was in a league of her own; she was the only female to do four problems in qualifiers and she was the only one to top three problems in finals. Lauren Kwan qualified second with the only other top of that round, and she maintained her silver spot after the final round. Marta Pieri came third because she got one more zone than Katrina Sutley, who came fourth.
