40 Day Trip to Baffin Island and Some New Routes

Over 40 days this summer, Jacob Cook, Bronwyn Hodgins, Thor Stewart and Zack Goldberg-Poch established some new routes on Baffin Island and repeated other climbs. Cook and Hodgins made the first ascent of Never Laugh at Live Dragons, a 600-metre 5.10+ on the south face of the South Tower of Mount Asgard.

Stewart and Goldberg-Poch made the first recorded ascent of Ulu Peak up their new 600-metre The Beached Whale 5.10+ A1. The two also made the first ascent of Mount Zacky, an unclimbed summit of Mount Midgard up their new Beach Vacation 5.10+ 600m. They also repeated Polar Thievery 5.11a 400m on the North Tower of Mount Asgard.

Cook and Hodgins also made the first ascent of The Niv Mizzet Line 5.13- 400m on an unnamed tower next to the north face of Ulu Peak. The two top climbers repeated The Scott/Henneck and added a new three-pitch free variation at 5.11+ over 900 metres on the North Tower of Mount Asgard. We're all back safe and happy in Pangnirtung after 34 days in the mountains on Baffin Island. I can't wait to share more stories once I'm back in Internet-land, but for now I'll just say we had a crazy adventure with many memorable climbs including first ascents and repeats on mount Asgard, Thor and others. But most of all I will remember this time in a beautiful landscape surrounded by mountains, glaciers, rivers and good friends. What a trip!
