40 Day Trip to Baffin Island and Some New Routes

Four top climbers repeated some classics and opened some serious new pitches

Over 40 days this summer, Jacob Cook, Bronwyn Hodgins, Thor Stewart and Zack Goldberg-Poch established some new routes on Baffin Island and repeated other climbs. Cook and Hodgins made the first ascent of Never Laugh at Live Dragons, a 600-metre 5.10+ on the south face of the South Tower of Mount Asgard.

Stewart and Goldberg-Poch made the first recorded ascent of Ulu Peak up their new 600-metre The Beached Whale 5.10+ A1. The two also made the first ascent of Mount Zacky, an unclimbed summit of Mount Midgard up their new Beach Vacation 5.10+ 600m. They also repeated Polar Thievery 5.11a 400m on the North Tower of Mount Asgard.

Cook and Hodgins also made the first ascent of The Niv Mizzet Line 5.13- 400m on an unnamed tower next to the north face of Ulu Peak. The two top climbers repeated The Scott/Henneck and added a new three-pitch free variation at 5.11+ over 900 metres on the North Tower of Mount Asgard.
