A 2024 Repeat of Off the Wagon Sit V16

This is one of the most climbed boulders at this grade after Lasse von Freier's recent redpoint

German comp climber Lasse von Freier, 21, has repeated the famous Swiss boulder Off the Wagon Sit V16 in Valle Bavona. He’s been projecting the steep problem since climbing the stand start, Off the Wagon V14, back in 2019.

“In my second session I broke off a food hold doing the crux move, which was mandatory for the first move,” von Freier said. “After spending a day working out a new beta, I gained the confidence for some proper goes the next session. Two days later, I suddenly stuck the crux move. Only needing to do the campus rose move I thought this is it. I always said I will never fall there. Well never say never. Dry-firing off the crimp I found myself back on the pads. The next day was the last of the trip. It was a mental battle but I got lucky.”

Off the Wagon was first tried nearly 20 years ago by Chris Sharma and Dave Graham and was first climbed in 2012 by Nalle Hukkataival. Six years later, Shawn Raboutou opened the sit start at V16. It’s now been climbed 11 times and is one of the most-climbed V16 problems, along with Sleepwalker which has 14 ascents.
