Adam Ondra Flashing V14 in His Underpants

On January 28, Adam Ondra flashed El Elegido V14/15 in La Pedriza, Spain, giving the line a personal grade of V14 (8B+). It was the Czech climber’s second flash of the grade, his first being Jade V14 in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado way back in 2015. He recently flashed his third of the grade, La Ligne de Bête V14 in Fontainebleau.
Ondra just released a film about his El Elegido flash. Hilariously, his shorts blew away earlier in the day and he didn’t want to try the flash attempt wearing bulky pants, so he decided to wear nothing but his climbing shoes and his underwear for his send. You can watch the video below. The film also features his FA of Elemental V14, a direct ending variation of El Elegido.
El Elegido was established by Alberto Rocasolano Jaudenes in 2017. Since then, it’s seen a few repeats, including from Spanish sport climbing star Jorge DÃaz-Rullo. Unlike Ondra, prior ascensionists suggested V14/15 for the problem, including DÃaz-Rullo.
“[El Elegido] is possibly the bouldering flash ascent that I value the most, even though I probably can’t take the slash grade,” said Ondra on Instagram after his send. “Nevertheless, really happy about my current shape in bouldering and about this unforgettable ascent in rather special circumstances.”
