Adam Ondra Tops V15/16 in Italy

He flashed the first half of the problem a couple weeks ago

On August 24, Adam Ondra made the second ascent of Flow State V15/16 (8C/+) in Val Daone in Trentino, Italy. Established by Pietro Vidi in spring 2024, the line links Grizzly V13 and Flow V13 into an 18-move monster, with the crux coming at the very end. Vidi suggested V16 for the problem.

On the same day Ondra topped Flow State, he also sent L’Oppio Dei Climbers V14. The following day he bouldered in Felbertauern, Austria, where he flashed Felberqueen V13 and topped two V12s and two V11s. Earlier in his trip, on August 15, he flashed the first half of Flow State (Grizzly V13) and redpointed the stand-start second half (Flow V13) in a single session.

“Regarding the grade, I think the way that Pietro sent it is surely an [V16],” said Ondra about Flow State on Instagram. “It climbs a super cool [V13] Grizzly for the first part (that I was able to flash), and then it goes right via 3 very desperate moves. The last hard “move” is not even a move, it is just releasing your left toehook. Pietro made a full cut-loose, whereas I was able to keep my right foot on the rock. To be able to do that, you need to be of similar height like me. There might be a bit of an advantage even in the lower moves, but this last move is definitely game-changer. I think it could be [V15] for my height, for shorter climbers it is [V16] for sure. Hats off to Pietro for the first ascent and watch out for him! He has the passion, talent and so much drive.”

According to Ondra’s 8a.nu, Flow State is Ondra’s 18th V15. He has four V16s to his name: Brutal Rider, Ledoborec, and Terranova in Czechia and Gioia in Italy.
