Akiyo Noguchi Crushed in Bishop

World champion Japanese comp climber, 25-year-old Akiyo Noguchi spent the last two weeks in Bishop and sent some of the area’s testpiece routes.

Noguchi arrived during the last week of March and made quick ascents of Seoul Slinger V9 and Fly Boy V8. She then went to work sending Checkerboard V8 and Magnetic North, a bold V8 highball.

On April 10, Noguchi sent The Mandala and wrote on her Instagram, “Today I sent TheMandala V12!!!!!! It took me more than 50 tries. That was my first time to getting the second crimp and I sent The Mandala on that try. I was so moved when I stood on top of the that beautiful boulder.”

The next day, she sent Evilution V10 and on her final day she ticked Atari V6 and The Hulk V6.

In 2013, Noguchi sent her first 5.14c with an ascent of Mind Control in Oliana, Spain.
