Allison Vest Sends a V13 in Utah
Vest, who became the first Canadian woman to climb V14 in 2022, has now ascended well over a dozen V13s
Allison Vest recently sent Cyber Bully V13 in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. The granite problem was established by Zach Galla in November 2022. Cyber Bully is an overhanging, powerful climb featuring small edges and strenuous heel hooks. The problem begins with Ka’Ching V14 and ends on Bully V11, a well-loved classic in the area. “I love granite so much,” said Vest on Instagram, referring to Cyber Bully.
Cyber Bully is Vest’s second of the grade this year. In February, she topped The Fish-Eye Effect in Red Rock, Nevada. She’s climbed many tough problems in Utah this year, including Mad Circle V12 in Price Canyon, Drop the Clutch Low Left V11 and Sway On V11 in Ogden, and Alzheimer’s Low V11 in Little Cottonwood Canyon .
In 2022, Vest sent Show Your Scars V14 in Ogden, Utah. This ascent made her the first Canadian woman in history to climb the grade of V14. One year before her send, she gave the line a session. After returning to the project, it took her 10 sessions to put it away. The ascent came after she stepped away from the Canadian National Team and comp climbing. She has sent at least 15 V13s. In May 2023, she climbed two V13s: Pagan Poetry Low in Joe’s Valley, Utah and Green in the Face in Castle Rocks, Idaho. A couple of months later, in July, she climbed two more V13s on a trip to Rocklands, South Africa: Bitch! and Master Key.
Vest was born in Minnesota and moved to Canmore when she was seven. She began comp climbing a couple of years later and, in her teens, became a part of the Canadian National Team. She has three won three championships in the Canadian Bouldering Nationals, winning gold in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The Canadian crusher has a reputation for having some of the strongest fingers in the world, often sharing clips of her lifting a mind-blowing amount of weight.
