Anak Verhoeven Climbs 5.14d Twice in a Day

Anak Verhoeven sent Cosi se Arete 5.14d during the day and then at night

Belgian climber Anak Verhoeven, 27, has just climbed a 5.14d while visiting Rodellar, Spain, twice in one day. She recently recovered from an ankle injury she sustained in June.

Verhoeven climbed the 50-metre stamina test-piece called Cosi se Arete 5.14d at Piscineta Sector, during the day, and then at night. “I sure was very determined,” she said, “through the upper crux, past the series of endurance moves at the very top… until I clipped the anchor!
Yes! Goal for the day reached. Then I suddenly wondered if I could maybe give this headlamp.”

In 2021, Verhoeven announced that she’s leaving the world of competition climber. In September 2017, she made the first ascent of Sang Neuf 5.14d at Pierrot Beach in France, becoming the first woman to make the FA at the grade. She then made the first ascent of Sweet Neuf, which links Sang Neuf with the 25-metre second-pitch of Home Sweet Home 5.14c/d at 5.15a. She became the second woman to climb 5.15a after Margo Hayes and the first to claim a first ascent at the grade.

In November 2019, she climbed her second 5.15a with Joe Mama in Oliana, Spain. Last year, she climbed Las Meninas 5.14d/15a in Spain. Read about her night send of
