Another 5.13b Trad for Freja Shannon

This is another hard send to add to her list, which includes bold alpine and ice lines

Freja Shannon has climbed Sista Bossen, a 35-metre trad line in Bohuslän, Sweden, which gets the Swedish grade of N9- and YDS grade of 5.13b. It’s her third gear line at the grade.

Shannon projected the climb for a few weeks, hoping to send before temps got too high. It’s located on the popular Branta Väggen crag, known for its steep cracks and big moves. Sista Bossen starts up a tricky crack, makes a cruxy traverse and finishes up a thin splitter. The send will be part of a new film on Shannon scheduled to be released at the 2023 BritRock Film Tour later this year.

Shannon, born in 1996, started climbing when she moved to the Alps at 19 years old. “My most memorable climbs are those ranging from Electric Avenue 5.13bR, to Perestroika Crack on the Sleslova tower in Kyrgyzstan, to the north face of Les Droites, to wild and remote Norwegian ice climbs,” she said. “But really, despite enjoying being challenged physically and mentally, it’s about the connection with my partners and sharing an experience.”

Earlier this year, we reported about a bold new winter mixed route established by Shannon and Fay Manners, read about it here. Shannon co-founded the Women’s Rock Festival in 2021 in an effort to give back to the climbing community. This year’s event will take place at the end of June, to learn more about it see here.
