The Piolet d’Or was awarded to two teams last week in recognition for their significant alpine climbing achievements. The jury recognized the American-Scottish team of Jed Brown, Kyle Dempster, and Bruce Normand for their ascent of The Great White Jade Heist M6 WI5 5.7 R, 2650m, on the west ridge of Xuelian Feng 6422m in China. The Kazakh climbers Boris Dedeshko and Denis Urubko were also recognized for their ascent of Kazakh Dedechko-Urubko M6 6b A2/3, 2600m on the southeast face of Cho Oyu 8201m in Nepal.
