Aug 14, 2009 – David John Thomson (1955 – 2009)

The legendary Canadian Rockies climber David Thompson died near the base of Castle Mountain on July 17, 2009. Thomson was an outstanding outdoor athlete who was an expert paddler, caver and skier, but he will be most remembered for his extensive contributions to mixed modern climbing in Canada. Thomson, who was born in England, made his home in Canmore. He is survived by his sister Mary, brother-in-law Roger and their children Katie and Tristan.  A more detailed obituary will appear in a later issue of Gripped.
