Ben Harnden Repeats Sonnie Trotter’s Family Man 5.14 in Skaha

Ben Harnden, who made the third and last ascent of Dreamcatcher 5.14d, has repeated Sonnie Trotter’s most recent B.C. test-piece.

Trotter climbed Family Man 5.14b on Oct. 21 of 2014. He had visited the route before his first ascent. On some project sessions, his wife Lydia belayed with their son Tatum strapped to her chest.

Trotter said it was just another family outing for them and that having a child just meant finding new ways to go climbing. He said the route is mostly face climbing and the first boulder problem is about V10 and then V9 to the anchors.

Trotter said the route was harder than Sugar Daddy 5.14 in Squamish, Direquiem 5.14 in Scotland and the Path 5.14 in the Rockies, but did not suggest it was harder than Cobra Crack (which has never been bolted despite what an April fools joke might have suggested).

Watch Harnden make the third ascent of Dreamcatcher here. In the video below, he makes the second ascent of Family Man in Skaha.
