Big Upgrade for Newmarket’s Of Rock and Chalk Gym in Ontario

The building will be getting major renovations over the next few months

Located at 482 Ontario St. in Newmarket stands an old building that houses one of the province’s oldest climbing gyms. Of Rock and Chalk was where many climbers in Canada started climbing, like Sonnie Trotter in the mid-1990s.

The interior decor, walls and holds have gone through few upgrades over the past 20 years and it was only a matter of time before one was announced. It appears that Of Rock and Chalk will be demolishing a part of the building and constructing a modern structure. They’ll also start sharing a space with the fitness brand True North Grit.

As more gyms reopen after the lockdowns across Canada this winter, be sure to head out and show support by buying a membership. We recently spoke to a few climbing gym owners about operating a climbing gym during covid-19, read the article here.
