Brits Climb ‘Fun or Fear’ New Alaska Alpine on Jezebel

British alpine climbers Uisdean Hawthorn and Tom Livingstone have made the first ascent of a long alpine route on Mount Jezebel.

Their new route is called Fun or Fear and it climbs the east face of the big peak in the Revelations, Alaska and it took two days at M6+ AI6R.

After their climb, Livingstone said, “A great experience with Hawthorn over two days, featuring some fun climbing, some scary climbing, a ‘relatively’ comfortable bivi and then a clear, windless summit. Todo bien.”

And Hawthorn said once back home, “Back in the land of running water and fresh food after being in the Revelations mountains in Alaska for three weeks.

“Livingstone and I tried the unclimbed north face of Jezebel and got shut down after eight pitches of amazingly steep and scary neve.

“A few days later we successfully climbed a new route on the east face in two days. It had a lot of steep and scary neve but also some good ice and mixed.

“We got back to base camp 46 hours after leaving feeling deeply satisfied and deeply hungry which we solved by eating some deep fried wraps at 2 a.m. We called the route Fun or Fear, because I kept asking myself this as I was climbing.”

Fun or Fear climbs up next to Hoar of Babylon for a number of steep pitches with some simul-climbing.
