Canadian Ben Haley Sends Offwidth Roof Trench Warfare 5.13

Ben Haley from Calgary has sent the offwidth roof Trench Warfare 5.13a in Little Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City. The route was first climbed by Johnny Woodward in 1995. Haley wrote on his Facebook, “Fun fact from the man James Mah, the camalot I drop at the end (because of a trigger wire failure) was used on the Excalibur speed ascent. I guess the cam was telling me I was spending too much time placing gear.”

The route is one of the most difficult of its kind in North American. Most say the length of the route is what makes it so difficult, 20 metres of horizontal offwidth climbing. The grade for Trench Warfare seems to change depending on the source. Some note it as 5.12d, but the majority at 5.13a.
